Calling all Artists’ Registry members.
This year the San Juan County Fair, Creative Arts Division, is highlighting Artist in Motion. This is your opportunity to demonstrate how you make your art—strut your stuff so to speak.
Each segment is 1.5 hours with a 30-minute break (for set-up and clean up) in a nice venue at the south end by the main doors, under the eve. There are five spots a day for each of the days of the fair (August 14 - August 17) starting at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, and 5 pm.
We want you to inspire, answer questions, and pique curiosity. You can introduce your processes, materials or any artistic area that would be fun to show. You can also encourage participation and, if you like, sign up for 2 spots. The demonstrations are an opportunity for public service at the same time as a stretching of your skill set. Making art in front of people and answering questions is not something most of us do regularly. Finally, your art can be displayed for sale, but this is not an art sale, just a demonstration.
We want lots of viewers, so the demos will be advertised in social media, on the daily sandwich board, and the newspaper insert.
The Artists’ Registry is part of SJIMA, but sending this notice through SJIMA allows us to contact most of the islands’ artists. We thank them for that access.
Please contact Rachel Dietzman at dietzman@rockisland.com or Alayne Goodhart at alayne.goodhart@gmail.com if you are interested.

My art covers a 45 year time span, mid 60s to present day.
Creative concepts often pop into my mind almost fully conceptualized while listening to music, reading, working in the garden, and often while driving. I have always wondered why we act the way we do and do the things we do. My passion is to render my observations of how we interact with each other and the earth. They tend to come out slightly skewed, but I can't imagine life without humor - it would just be too sad and hard.
As Bob Dylan said, "I'm not trying to say anything. I'm just singing about what I see.”
