Painting: Acrylic Gouache & Gold Leaf Iconography
As far back as I can remember I have believed that creativity is at the heart of what it means to be truly and fully human. When I was ten years old I was given, with other kids, opportunity to create murals that were displayed on the interior walls of our school buildings. That launched the beginning of a long adventure into painting. The adventure introduced me to many different kinds of artists along the way who inspired and encouraged me to keep on painting. During the past fifteen years or so I have made space in my busy life to paint more frequently, in a variety of media. My focus now is mainly on acrylic/oil landscapes, largely of Lopez Island scenes, and Byzantine Iconography, arising out of a brief time I spent at a monastery in 2006. There is a philosophical view that beauty and truth are one. As an artist, something in that tenet resonates within. My vision is to express visually the beauty of God’s creative glory that will bring tranquility and peace to people in a world that often appears opposed to what is right and good. |
