I spent my childhood with some sort of drawing or painting utensil almost permanently attached to my hands but was steered into the math/science academic arena until my final year of high school when I finally had an elective that was fulfilled by a painting class. With a total change of direction I received a BA in Fine Arts from UCLA focusing on painting, printmaking and photography. After other twists and turns in the direction of a career in education and teaching for numerous years, I came to the decision a few years ago to finally immerse myself back into the art realm. Since then, I have been focusing on watercolor painting. and recently, have renewed my relationship with my first love, woodcuts. Most recently, I have been exploring the use of Pastels. I am greatly influenced by my love of the outdoors, wildflowers and gardening. I currently am enjoying the challenge of different ways of depicting light as it plays within a painting. I find joy in painting the various landscapes from my travels and the lovely island where I live. I have been involved through my art in fundraising for children orphaned by AIDS in Zimbabwe through ‘Project Luminescence’. Proceeds from the sales of greeting cards of my original artwork help preschool and elementary aged children living in Hatcliffe Extension to be able to attend school as well as receive nutritional and medical care.
